It was eye opening to find out how much those 2 things matter and how important it is that their respective messaging is aligned. The engineering rebuild helped me with a core issue. Simply facing the truth of how to present myself. Every detail matters and the rebuild was critical to putting the whole package together. Details like what to say or not say in a cover letter was particularly useful. The rebuild comes with an almost shocking level of content, but it is all personal/relevant. It really is a window into the other side of the table and almost fascinating to see all the details that should be considered. The voice guide is a useful call out. Mentally super helpful to break down each member of the interview loop to target your voice towards each. Also on flip side it was helpful to think about presenting a consistent message to each stage of the loop. This rebuild has helped me get to the table. “After 5 months of searching and getting rejection after rejection, I was honestly tired. It was not the one I had been trying to make them say. I was leading with the company name. The actual asset was buried in my third bullet. Not everything landed, and it is written, so if you want someone to talk it through, this is not that.”

“Short, but don't let the size fool you. I first read this book when it was called "The Engineer Visibility" and I think the new title matches its purpose much better. As engineers, we are always focused on the skills we need to improve, but we often forget that there is another layer before those skills are evaluated, and maybe not forgetting it, we just don't know it exist. The first person looking at your profile or resume usually won't have the time or even the technical background to evaluate your skills. Mike explains this really well. More than just quick theory, this is something you can apply immediately. I unfortunately didn't do that right away and that was on me. So my recommendation is to sit down for 30-40 minutes and read it in one go. It's simple, practical and easy to understand. By the end you will have a clear path to improve that layer we ignore (or do not know it exists, at least I never considered it). As a close this book will help you to know how visible and understandable our value is before anyone gets the change to evaluate our actual skills. And a plus! if you have been actively applied recently without answer, also to know why you might being rejected and another PLUS PLUS! to show what you can actually do to improve that.”
